We currently have the following internships available

+Operations Intern

The Operations intern will work with TMA staff and Executive Committee to assist in the development and implementation of various programs, services, and community-based projects in partnership with academic partners and institution. Working with the management team, the position also contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices. This position will also interact with the Board of Directors and the Medical and Scientific Council.

In addition to basic media/communications skills and strong organization skills, the intern should have an interest in the field of healthcare. Knowledge of global health issues is a plus, passion is a must.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide logistical and administrative support to team and projects.
  2. Work closely with project manager to assist in the implementation of advocacy projects, including day-to-day project coordination and correspondence with project partners.
  3. Update and maintain media and projects contacts.
  4. Help organize and plan events, including conferences, camps and educational forums
  5. Develop and improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organization’s mission
  6. Manage day to day processing, recording and acknowledge electronic and check donations, accounts receivable and payable, producing reports as requested
  7. Provide support to the Secretary of the TMA for acknowledgment letter and memorial/honor recognition, as well as Membership correspondence program
  8. Support the development and maintenance of strategic partnerships with organizations such as Accelerated Cure Project, the Guthy-Jackson Foundation, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Spinal Injuries Association of Australia, the National Organization of Rare Disorders and others.
  9. Support the development and maintenance of strategic relationships with governmental organizations such as NIH, the Office of Rare Disorders, NINDS and others

Required Qualifications:

Individual should be well-organized and able to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Individual should be a self-starter who is intelligent, reliable and has a good sense of humor. In addition, the intern should meet the following qualifications:

-     Skilled researcher, writer and editor; able to turn around documents rapidly

-     Knowledge of global health

-     Ability to work in fast-paced, demanding environment

-     Work well as both a team member and independently

-     Flexible, able to multitask

-     Strong sense of professional and personal ethics

-     Open-minded, willing to continue learning

-     Positive, energetic attitude; enthusiastic

-     Rigorous thinker

-     Good political skills/sound judgment

-     Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

+Communications and Media Intern

The Communications and Media Intern will work with TMA staff and Executive Committee to assist in the development and communication of various programs, services, and community-based projects in partnership with academic partners and institution. Working with the management team, the position also contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies for fundraising and increasing awareness. This position will also interact with the Board of Directors and the Medical and Scientific Council.

In addition to basic media/communications skills and strong organization skills, the intern should have an interest in the field  of healthcare. Knowledge of global health issues is a plus, passion is a must.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Produce new content and refresh the design and accessibility of the website
  2. Write blog posts, and assist with newsletters, new member packets, stationery, fact sheets, brochures
  3. Assist with the social media and communication strategy for the Association
  4. Support the TMA team in the development and maintenance of organization social networking sites and support for bulletin boards, TM internet club, twitter, youtube, blogs
  5. Support the development and implementation of fundraising programs, patient support and awareness activities including family camps, symposia, teen and young adult programs, campaigns and major donor solicitation
  6. Coordinate international support group networking and educational opportunities, including specialized networks such as the Children’s and Family Network, the Lyme Disease Awareness Support, Optic Neuritis Support Group
  7. Coordinate Family Camps and Young Adult Retreats including recruiting, organization and logistics, communications with camps, and fundraising
  8. Coordinate the design, development, promotion and recruitment, and implementation of education symposia with academic partners
  9. Provide telephonic and electronic support to patients and members of the TMA including referral to physicians and local support groups
