Utilizing Brain Imaging to Understand Cognitive Dysfunction in Transverse Myelitis

Study Site: University of Texas Southwestern & Children’s Medical Center, Dallas, TX
Based on previous research showing cognitive problems in transverse myelitis, a pilot study was designed to further investigate this observation. This is a study that utilizes brain imaging to understand cognitive dysfunction in transverse myelitis. Data will be acquired through MRI scan of the brain, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and neuropsychological evaluation.
Patients diagnosed with TM at or before 18 years of age treated at the Children’s Medical Center Pediatric Demyelinating Diseases Clinic in Dallas, Texas are eligible to enroll in this study.
Age at participation must be between 8 and 18 years of age.
No history of neurological problems such as seizures, brain tumor, stroke, brain injury.
Must be able to complete an MRI scan without sedation.
